Dead Island is an emotional game trailer of a young family's holiday gone wrong when their hotel becomes infested with zombies.
Axis, with director Stu Aitken, worked closely with Deep Silver to script out a narrative that would create a different emotional reaction rather than the typical zombie shoot ‘em up; they wanted it to be more visceral. What they got was a touching trailer that tugged at the heartstrings of their zombie-loving audiences.
Stu and Axis developed a highly creative narrative by not only telling an emotional story, but also choosing to chronologically play it in reverse, heightening on the chaos of the zombie infestation and fear of the young family’s fight for their lives.
Within the first 48 hours of the trailer release it had over 2.7 million YouTube views. Dead Island recently received a Cannes Gold Lion for 2011.
